Tiger beach isn’t actually a beach at all, but is a small area of shallow sea with a flat sandy seabed, with little to no current, and is where dive operators feed the sharks to draw them in.

The shark-feeder takes down a bait crate and gives a small amount of fish to each tiger or hammerhead shark as they approach. Divers are positioned on the sand cage-free close to the feeder to get an excellent view of the sharks as they pass by and to take photos too.

Tiger Beach dive site is 32 kilometres (20 miles) off the west coast of Grand Bahamas Island. It takes roughly an hour to 90 minutes get to Tiger Beach by boat.

This is a shallow dive, where the depth starts at about 6 metres (20 feet) and drops away to 30 meters (99 feet). There is rarely any current at Tiger Beach and the visibility is usually excellent.

Due to the nature of the dive (i.e. shark diving outside of a cage), you are required to be Open Water Diver certified. You also need to have up to 30 logged dives, but this will depend on the Bahamas liveaboard you choose.

The visibility is crystal clear, as can be seen in the video below. But even then the sharks appear out of the deep blue from all sides.

This dive will not disappoint. You have the chance to see tiger sharks, great hammerhead sharks, bull sharks, grey reef sharks and lemon sharks.
