Galapagos Islands - Where is Galapagos exactly located

It’s safe to say that scuba diving the Galapagos Islands is probably on the bucket list for most keen scuba divers. Most people have heard about the Galápagos Islands. But not everyone is certain where they’re located.

The Galapagos Islands are located nearly 1,000 kilometres (600 miles) off the coast of Ecuador. These iconic islands are in the Pacific Ocean. The archipelago of Galapagos was made famous by explorer and scientist Charles Darwin.

Darwin explored the islands themselves (19 in total). But he didn’t explore beneath the oceans around the Galapagos. The seas around these islands are rich in nutrients and animal life.

The waters are teaming with life and have a huge diversity of animals and plant life to see and experience.

Due to its natural resources and importance to planet conservation, the Galapagos Islands are listed as Unesco World Heritage. These islands are located at the convergence of three ocean currents. It’s these currents that make them a ‘melting pot’ of marine species.

My favorite liveboard yet! “There are several liveaboards in the Galapagos but the Agressor III is the best one. The boat had max 16 guest so the experience is very intimate and personal. A few highlights, large organized dive deck, hot tub, cook to order breakfast, comfy beds, knowledgeable guides, and organized diving plan that was not over bearing. The visibility was not great on several dives but I managed to see everything I hoped to including 6 whale sharks!” Recommended for Crew friendliness, food quality, marine life. A truly fabulous dive experience! The crew were fantastic and really looked after you above and below the water. Their safety was excellent, which was reassuring considering how challenging the diving was. We saw loads of hammerheads, about six whale-sharks, an enormous tiger shark (up close and personal!), sea lions, dolphins…..the list goes on. The wildlife was awesome, but the diving is extremely challenging at times with absolutely incredible currents-only for experienced, confident divers.” Recommended for The crew, the diving and how you were looked after before, during and after the diving. Emma B 9.2 Superb 4.5 stars out of 5 – Australia.
