Russell Bowyer here. I've written this Discovery I Liveaboard review to help you choose the right liveaboard with confidence. As a qualified diving instructor and Advanced BSAC Diver with 500+ dives worldwide, I've helped countless divers pick their perfect liveaboard - whether it's your first time liveaboard or you're an experienced diver seeking your next adventure.

Read more about Russell's diving experience

My diving experience spans cold-water UK drysuit dives, warm coral reefs in the Caribbean, the Red Sea, the Great Barrier Reef, and South Africa. As a former BSAC Diving Officer, I've led dive training and operations. I've logged every type of dive: decompression stop deep dives, wreck dives, shark dives, night dives, drift dives, and everything in between. This hands-on experience means I know exactly what makes a great liveaboard experience.

Customer review from Liveaboard.com

Excellent Dive Trip … a lovely group of people. We were so pleased to go back to the Northern dive sights … we were divers there in 1989! So lots of changes . The weather was windy and challenging at times but the crew were excellent and the itinerary changed to where it was safe to dive Very lucky to see White tip sharks , dolphins and the highlight a huge Whale Shark at Ras Mohammad ! A real bonus”

Recommended for: The mix of people. A lovely group of 16 not too many. The dive guides. Professional and good safety. Briefings were excellent. The food . Very good.

What’s more, If you dive rebreather, the Discovery I provides support, but it’s worth confirming in advance which rebreathers are supported and whether oxygen fills, sorb availability, and bailout requirements are in place, because this can vary by region and itinerary.

If you dive sidemount, the Discovery I supports it, but when planning your dives check cylinder options and the deck set-up, so your configuration is comfortable and properly supported for the dives planned.

All Egypt's Discounted Liveaboard Deals & Last Minute Discounts

All liveaboard reviews on this site are written based on my real diving experience, from hundreds of dives across reefs, wreck dives, shark dives, deep dives, night dives and drysuit diving.

I’ve cold water dived in the UK, warm water dived from many of the Caribbean islands, dived both the east and west coasts of Australia, the Red Sea, South Africa and dived the east and west coasts of the USA, and I’ve also spent time and enjoyed diving from liveaboards myself too.

My aim; to always give you clear, honest, practical advice, so you can book the right dive boat and enjoy the best possible liveaboard diving holiday, be that on the Discovery I or any other liveaboard I've reviewed on Scuba Diving Earth.
