Amazing cruise to Maldives. Amazing! Especially during the shark dives. I want to thank my dive guide Naathi especially, he was so helpful and calm. I was not very experienced using the reef hooks and always took a bit longer to hook them than other divers, but Naathi always tried to help me find a good place to hook and take videos. He was so nice!”

Carpe Vita Liveaboard Review - Expert Guide to Choosing Your Liveaboard

Russell Bowyer here. I've written this Carpe Vita Liveaboard review to help you choose the right liveaboard with confidence. As a qualified diving instructor and Advanced BSAC Diver with 500+ dives worldwide, I've helped countless divers pick their perfect liveaboard - whether it's your first time liveaboard or you're an experienced diver seeking your next adventure.

Read more about Russell's diving experience

My diving experience spans cold-water UK drysuit dives, warm coral reefs in the Caribbean, the Red Sea, the Great Barrier Reef, and South Africa. As a former BSAC Diving Officer and diving instructor, I've taught many people to dive and taken a lot of the divers I taught on their first dive. I also used to organise and run dive trips in the UK, with one of my favourites being expeditions to the Farne Islands to dive with the seals. I've logged every type of dive: decompression stop deep dives, wreck dives, shark dives, night dives, drift dives, and everything in between. This hands-on experience means I know exactly what makes a great liveaboard experience, having dived from liveaboards myself and loved it. This is why I came up with the SDE Liveaboard Rating* to help you choose the best liveaboard for you.

Customer review from Liveaboard.com

The dive trip of a lifetime but I am determined to come back. From the moment we were collected from the airport everything ran like clockwork. The dive groups were small which was helpful. The dive locations were all varied. They included white tip shark watching by reef hook, diving with mantas at night and swimming and lying on the sand at the ocean floor with 20 or more very friendly nurse sharks. Honestly the trip of a lifetime. The meals on the boat were such high quality and we were well looked after with fresh towels every day, good air con in rooms and dive briefing room. Must say it was a luxury experience and worth every penny.”

Recommended for: Big boat separate dive dhoni great itinerary. Night dive with mantas. Exceptional food.

I’ve cold water dived in the UK, warm water dived from many of the Caribbean islands, dived both the east and west coasts of Australia, the Red Sea, South Africa and dived the east and west coasts of the USA, and I’ve also spent time and enjoyed diving from liveaboards myself too.

My aim; to always give you clear, honest, practical advice, so you can book the right dive boat and enjoy the best possible liveaboard diving holiday, be that on the Carpe Vita or any other liveaboard I've reviewed on Scuba Diving Earth.
