Hanifaru Bay Liveaboard Itinerary Stop

Hanifaru Bay is a protected, funnel-shaped bay in Baa Atoll where tides and monsoon conditions can concentrate plankton into a relatively small area. When the conditions align, reef manta rays gather to feed and may be joined by whale sharks, creating one of the Maldives’ best-known marine wildlife spectacles.

This is not a scuba-diving site. Scuba diving is prohibited within Hanifaru Bay and liveaboard guests visit for a controlled snorkelling experience. Access is managed to reduce disturbance, and the exact timing of an excursion depends on permits, local rules, weather and whether mantas are present. An itinerary mentioning Hanifaru Bay therefore cannot guarantee a particular number of animals or even entry on every departure.

Visitors should listen carefully to the briefing and maintain the required distance from the animals. Chasing, touching or blocking a manta’s path is inappropriate, while flash photography and powered underwater scooters are prohibited.
