Excellent trip, highly recommended. Overall, we had a great experience with Mikumba Dua. We would be happy to return and do another trip with them. We stayed in one of the master bedrooms. The dive masters were excellent. They were helpful when half the divers started having ear problems from back to back diving, diligent with respect to safety procedures, incredible in their ability to spot macros. In general, it was a pleasure exchanging and learning from them. The food exceeded our expectations! The occasional snack after the last dive of the day was such a treat! The planning was really well done and we managed to do everything in a timely fashion without any rushing. Staying at the master bedroom was very nice. The interior is beautiful and the bed comfortable.”

Mikumba Dua Liveaboard Review - Expert Guide to Choosing Your Liveaboard

Russell Bowyer here. I've written this Mikumba Dua Liveaboard review to help you confidently choose and book the right liveaboard. As a qualified diving instructor and Advanced BSAC Diver with 500+ dives worldwide, I've helped countless divers pick their perfect liveaboard - whether it's your first time liveaboard or you're an experienced diver seeking your next adventure.

Read more about Russell's diving experience

My diving experience spans cold-water UK drysuit dives, warm coral reefs in the Caribbean, the Red Sea, the Great Barrier Reef, and South Africa. As a former BSAC Diving Officer and diving instructor, I've taught many people to dive and taken a lot of the divers I taught on their first dive. I also used to organise and run dive trips in the UK, with one of my favourites being expeditions to the Farne Islands to dive with the seals. I've logged every type of dive: decompression stop deep dives, wreck dives, shark dives, night dives, drift dives, and everything in between. This hands-on experience means I know exactly what makes a great liveaboard experience, having dived from liveaboards myself and loved it. This is why I came up with the SDE Liveaboard Rating* to help you choose the best liveaboard for you.

SDE Liveaboard Rating – Underwater Photographer Features for the Mikumba Dua Liveaboard

My score of the Mikumba Dua Liveaboard is 4/5 on the SDE Underwater Photographer Rating, as it has 4 of the 5 key photographer facilities (see below).

The Mikumba Dua Liveaboard includes a dedicated camera room so you have a safe, dry area to build and service your underwater camera rig between dives. In addition, it has a dedicated camera station close to the dive deck, which lets you gear up quickly, check your housing and swap batteries or memory cards between dives.

What’s more, it offers a separate rinse tank for underwater cameras, which is crucial for protecting expensive camera equipment from scratches and damage. Also a dedicated camera tank avoids any risks that can arise from sharing space with general diving gear, such as regulators, wetsuits, and heavy fins to avoid contamitation from sand, salt, debris and any chemicals.

You’ll also find it provides dedicated charging stations for cameras, strobes, torches and laptops so your batteries are always topped up and ready for your next dive.

Below I've listed the 5 key underwater photographer features for the Mikumba Dua Liveaboard, where for this liveaboard it includes 4 of the 5 key features.

Customer review from Liveaboard.com

One of the best dive experience! First of all I would like to thank the whole crew for an amazing trip and an experience. Everyone was very attentive, respectful, and very fun to be around! I have always felt safe during our dives as dive master was very attentive. Some of the dives for me was bit challenging, but the dive master, Willy, always had a positive attitude and supported me as well as others during our dives to have the best experience possible. And needless to say the food during the 5 day trip was amazing. I think it was the most delicious food I had including Bali and Labuan Bajo. The trip was very organized and flexible to make sure we were having a best time while maintaining safety. If opportunity arises, I would love to and hope to join them again for an other trips!! Also all the people we met were all so friendly and fun! Which was a blessing and made our stay even better.”

Recommended for: Great crew member. Amazing scuba dive. Fantastic food.
