Wreck of the Aguila is a 70-metre cargo vessel deliberately sunk for divers and later broken into three sections by storms. The wreck rests at roughly 30–34 metres, with the upper structure shallower. Advanced certification, careful no-decompression planning and solid buoyancy are important; penetration requires dedicated wreck training.

The Bay Islands are known for warm Caribbean water, coral walls and abundant reef life, but each site has its own reason to be included. At Wreck of the Aguila, divers should slow down enough to notice the reef as well as looking into open water. Turtles, rays, groupers, jacks and barracuda are all possible, while sponges, sea fans, moray eels and smaller reef fish reward a closer look.

El Aguila is popular with Roatán day boats. A liveaboard can reach the mooring early, before the wreck becomes crowded, and follow it with a shallower wall or reef dive nearby. Night diving may be possible on the wider itinerary, but the crew selects a sheltered site according to conditions; Wreck of the Aguila should only be treated as the night-dive location when the operator confirms it.

The site combines well with Odyssey Wreck and Mary’s Place, giving the itinerary a useful change of depth, terrain or diving style. A dive computer and surface marker buoy are sensible throughout the Bay Islands. Nitrox is useful for repetitive diving when the diver is qualified and the operator provides it.
