Mary’s Place is a fractured reef crossed by dramatic vertical cracks and coral canyons. The famous route enters narrow swim-throughs before opening onto a deeper wall. Good buoyancy, controlled finning and comfort in confined passages are more important than chasing maximum depth.

The Bay Islands are known for warm Caribbean water, coral walls and abundant reef life, but each site has its own reason to be included. At Mary’s Place, divers should slow down enough to notice the reef as well as looking into open water. Turtles, rays, groupers, jacks and barracuda are all possible, while sponges, sea fans, moray eels and smaller reef fish reward a closer look.

Mary’s Place is accessible by day boat and can become busy. A liveaboard can aim for an early slot, reducing crowding in the canyons and leaving more freedom to explore the wall at an unhurried pace. Night diving may be possible on the wider itinerary, but the crew selects a sheltered site according to conditions; Mary’s Place should only be treated as the night-dive location when the operator confirms it.

The site combines well with Taviana’s Wall and Odyssey Wreck, giving the itinerary a useful change of depth, terrain or diving style. A dive computer and surface marker buoy are sensible throughout the Bay Islands. Nitrox is useful for repetitive diving when the diver is qualified and the operator provides it.
