Split Reefs offers two contrasting levels of Glover’s Reef within one site. A shallow coral formation rises towards the surface, while the outer section descends along a deeper reef and wall. Divers can therefore adjust the route to their experience, gas and conditions rather than committing to one fixed depth.

Elkhorn and brain corals, sea fans and other gorgonians provide habitat for blue tangs, parrotfish, angelfish, grunts and snappers. Moray eels and spiny lobsters hide within the reef, while turtles, southern stingrays and spotted eagle rays may cross the open areas. Reef sharks, octopus and larger seasonal visitors are possible, although none should be treated as guaranteed.

The shallow portion can be relaxed, but the deeper wall and possible current make intermediate experience a sensible overall minimum. Keep good separation from fragile coral, monitor depth when moving between reef levels and carry a surface marker buoy. The Belize Aggressor description of Split Reefs identifies a reef around 12 metres deep that rises towards the surface, with a deeper section dropping along a wall towards 30 metres.

Glover’s Reef is remote from the mainland, so staying on a liveaboard reduces travel and gives the dive team freedom to choose the best part of the site for the day’s current. Early entries also mean fewer other boats and less pressure to rush the dive. Split Reefs can be combined with the channel at Baking Swash Reef and the coral thickets at Emerald Forest Reef.

If the mooring and conditions are suitable, a liveaboard may use the afternoon site again after dark. Night diving reveals lobsters, moray eels, octopus and other animals that remain hidden by day, but the crew may select a more protected nearby reef instead. Compare Belize diving liveaboards by their stated route and dates, because a general Belize itinerary does not automatically include Glover’s Reef.
