Shark Point occupies the north-eastern corner of Glover’s Reef Atoll, where the reef bends towards open Caribbean water. The position can concentrate current and marine life, producing an energetic wall dive with a healthy reef plateau above deeper blue water.

Caribbean reef sharks and nurse sharks may patrol the reef edge, while grouper, snappers and parrotfish use the coral and sandy channels. Spotted eagle rays and southern stingrays are possible, and larger sharks have occasionally been reported in the deeper water. The name describes the site’s potential, not a guaranteed encounter.

The dive commonly begins on the shallower reef before following the wall towards 30 metres or more. Moderate current may strengthen around the corner, so intermediate experience, confident buoyancy and comfort with drift procedures are important. Stay with the guide, watch depth and gas, and be prepared for a blue-water ascent using a delayed or standard surface marker buoy. Shark Point is remote enough that a liveaboard is the most practical way to plan the dive. The crew can wait for an appropriate current and weather window, enter early and move to a more sheltered site if the corner is unsuitable. It also lets you combine the dive with grouper encounters at Grouper Flats and easier coral exploration at Baking Swash Reef.

Night diving is better suited to a protected nearby reef than this exposed corner and should depend on the captain’s decision. That flexibility is part of the liveaboard benefit: the itinerary can respond to real conditions instead of promising one fixed schedule.
