Pelican Point is a remote seamount whose broad summit rises to around 18 metres. Because the top is deeper than a typical shallow reef, the dive quickly uses no-decompression time. Current may sweep over the bank, so advanced training and a controlled blue-water ascent are useful.

The Bay Islands are known for warm Caribbean water, coral walls and abundant reef life, but each site has its own reason to be included. At Pelican Point, divers should slow down enough to notice the reef as well as looking into open water. Turtles, rays, groupers, jacks and barracuda are all possible, while sponges, sea fans, moray eels and smaller reef fish reward a closer look.

Cayos Cochinos lies well offshore and Pelican Point is far more practical from a liveaboard than as a long day trip. The boat can remain in the area, reach the bank early and choose another seamount if conditions change. Night diving may be possible on the wider itinerary, but the crew selects a sheltered site according to conditions; Pelican Point should only be treated as the night-dive location when the operator confirms it.

The site combines well with Toon Town and Coco’s Sea Mount, giving the itinerary a useful change of depth, terrain or diving style. A dive computer and surface marker buoy are sensible throughout the Bay Islands. Nitrox is useful for repetitive diving when the diver is qualified and the operator provides it.
