Cannery Bank is a broad offshore coral bank with ridges, sand channels and wide views into the blue. The bank supports a flexible profile, with shallower coral on top and deeper edges for experienced divers. Current is normally manageable but can strengthen across exposed sections.

The Bay Islands are known for warm Caribbean water, coral walls and abundant reef life, but each site has its own reason to be included. At Cannery Bank, divers should slow down enough to notice the reef as well as looking into open water. Turtles, rays, groupers, jacks and barracuda are all possible, while sponges, sea fans, moray eels and smaller reef fish reward a closer look.

Cannery Bank can be reached by day boat, but a liveaboard has the advantage of arriving early and adjusting the order of the dives before other boats commit to the crossing. Night diving may be possible on the wider itinerary, but the crew selects a sheltered site according to conditions; Cannery Bank should only be treated as the night-dive location when the operator confirms it.

The site combines well with Black Hills and Hawksbill Bank, giving the itinerary a useful change of depth, terrain or diving style. A dive computer and surface marker buoy are sensible throughout the Bay Islands. Nitrox is useful for repetitive diving when the diver is qualified and the operator provides it.
