The reason why Cape Cod Bay is visited by great white sharks is because the water temperature stays above 12°C (53.6°F) in July through to October, with a high of around 21.9°C (71.42°F) in July and August.

The sea temperature in Cape Cod Bay drops to below 12°C (53.8°) in November through June. But at times the sea temperature in Cape Cod Bay can be above 12°C in November, and in May and June each year. This means there may be great white sharks in Cape Cod between May and November.

Great white sharks prefer water temperatures between 12-24°C (54-75 °F), which means they may visit Cape Cod, Massachusetts between the months of May and October each year when water temperatures in the area are can be within this perfect white shark sea temperature range.

Great white shark Charlotte has been tracked in Cape Cod bay, Massachusetts. When white shark Charlotte was tagged on 29th March 2021 in Onslow Bay, she was 338lbs (153kg) and 8′ 1″ (2.46 metres) long.

You will see from the above image that Charlotte white shark last visited Cape Cod Bay in August 2021. Prior to this she was pinged on 15th August 2021 in Bigelow Bight just off from Ogunquit, before she swam across Massachusetts bay to Cape Cod Bay.

When great white shark Cisco was tagged he was 357lbs (162kg) and 8′ 8″ (2.64 metres) in length. This male great white shark was originally tagged near Nantucket, MA on 7 October 2016, and was last pinged in Cape Cod Bay in June 2017.

Why are there so many great white sharks in Cape Cod?

The reason why there are so many great white sharks in Cape Cod is because of the increasing numbers of grey seals, which is since the seals were protected by law under the US Marine Mammal Protection Act. Great white sharks are a protected species too and hunt this growing population of grey seals.

What Cape Cod beach has the most sharks?

Cape Cod beaches where the most great sharks are found include Race Point Beach, North Truro High Head Beach, Longnook Beach, Ballston Beach, Cahoon Hollow Beach, Marconi Beach, Nauset Beach and Orleans Beach on the outer shores of the Cape where seals can also be found hunting for fish.
