Tala Liveaboard Review - Expert Guide to Choosing Your Liveaboard

Russell Bowyer here. I've written this Tala Liveaboard review to help you confidently choose and book the right liveaboard. As a qualified diving instructor and Advanced BSAC Diver with 500+ dives worldwide, I've helped countless divers pick their perfect liveaboard - whether it's your first time liveaboard or you're an experienced diver seeking your next adventure.

Read more about Russell's diving experience

My diving experience spans cold-water UK drysuit dives, warm coral reefs in the Caribbean, the Red Sea, the Great Barrier Reef, and South Africa. As a former BSAC Diving Officer and diving instructor, I've taught many people to dive and taken a lot of the divers I taught on their first dive. I also used to organise and run dive trips in the UK, with one of my favourites being expeditions to the Farne Islands to dive with the seals. I've logged every type of dive: decompression stop deep dives, wreck dives, shark dives, night dives, drift dives, and everything in between. This hands-on experience means I know exactly what makes a great liveaboard experience, having dived from liveaboards myself and loved it. This is why I came up with the SDE Liveaboard Rating* to help you choose the best liveaboard for you.

*How SDE Liveaboard Rating works for the Tala Liveaboard: 63%

The SDE Liveaboard Rating for the Tala Liveaboard works by taking the six individual SDE Liveaboard Rating scores, with each one being scored out of 10 and then adding them together. SDE Liveaboard Rating – Technical Diving Features for the Tala Liveaboard

My score of the Tala Liveaboard is 3/3 on the SDE Tech Diving Rating, as it has 3 of the 3 key technical diving features (see below).

If you plan to do technical diving, the Tala Liveaboard supports tech divers, but before you finalise your trip, check the typical dive depths, available gases, and whether stage and decompression cylinders are supported on your chosen itinerary. In addition, If you dive with a rebreather the Tala Liveaboard provides rebreather support, but it’s worth confirming in advance which rebreathers are supported and whether oxygen fills, sorb availability, and bailout requirements are onboard, because this can vary by region and itinerary.

If you like to dive sidemount style the Tala Liveaboard supports sidemount diving, but when you plan your dives check the boat’s cylinder options and the deck set-up, so your configuration is comfortable and properly supported for the dives planned.

Customer review from Liveaboard.com

Value-packed experience. I wasn’t expecting such an awesome experience when I signed up for it. For such a price, you get 17 dives, sharks, turtles, octopus, sunsets, sunrises, Milky Way, amazing meals, 7 nights’ stay with rooms cleaned everyday, super friendly crews, great diving guides, friends from all over the world. I would say the highlight is definitely people. I know we weren’t the luckiest, the luckier divers who were on this same boat saw hamper heads, dolphins and dugongs. But still, even we weren’t luck enough to see those, it was still an enjoyable trip, because of the incredible staffs and the overall atmosphere. Highly recommended!”

Recommended for: Diving guides and teachers are amazing (learnt Nitrox and scooter on board). Boat crew were super friendly and hospitable. Ocean animals, sunset, sunrise, Milky Way at night is stunning.
