Can't wait to come back for another trip. Outstanding diving paired with a very friendly and cool crew. I very much enjoyed the diving as buddy pairs without guide. I would rate the diving on the outer reef sites slightly higher than on the ribbon reefs but both are very good. Another positive little detail is that dinner is served after the night dive so one can enjoy the outstanding food. The chef deserves an award for her cooking!”

Spoilsport Liveaboard Review - Expert Guide to Choosing Your Liveaboard

Russell Bowyer here. I've written this Spoilsport Liveaboard review to help you confidently choose and book the right liveaboard. As a qualified diving instructor and Advanced BSAC Diver with 500+ dives worldwide, I've helped countless divers pick their perfect liveaboard - whether it's your first time liveaboard or you're an experienced diver seeking your next adventure.

Read more about Russell's diving experience

My diving experience spans cold-water UK drysuit dives, warm coral reefs in the Caribbean, the Red Sea, the Great Barrier Reef, and South Africa. As a former BSAC Diving Officer and diving instructor, I've taught many people to dive and taken a lot of the divers I taught on their first dive. I also used to organise and run dive trips in the UK, with one of my favourites being expeditions to the Farne Islands to dive with the seals. I've logged every type of dive: decompression stop deep dives, wreck dives, shark dives, night dives, drift dives, and everything in between. This hands-on experience means I know exactly what makes a great liveaboard experience, having dived from liveaboards myself and loved it. This is why I came up with the SDE Liveaboard Rating* to help you choose the best liveaboard for you.

*How SDE Liveaboard Rating works for the Spoilsport Liveaboard: 61%

The SDE Liveaboard Rating for the Spoilsport Liveaboard works by taking the six individual SDE Liveaboard Rating scores, with each one being scored out of 10 and then adding them together. SDE Liveaboard Rating – Underwater Photographer Features for the Spoilsport Liveaboard

My score of the Spoilsport Liveaboard is 3/5 on the SDE Underwater Photographer Rating, as it has 3 of the 5 key photographer facilities (see below).

The Spoilsport Liveaboard has a dedicated camera station close to the dive deck, which lets you gear up quickly, check your housing and swap batteries or memory cards between dives. In addition, it offers a separate rinse tank for underwater cameras, which is crucial for protecting expensive camera equipment from scratches and damage.

Also a dedicated camera tank avoids any risks that can arise from sharing space with general diving gear, such as regulators, wetsuits, and heavy fins to avoid contamitation from sand, salt, debris and any chemicals. What’s more, it provides dedicated charging stations for cameras, strobes, torches and laptops so your batteries are always topped up and ready for your next dive.

Below I've listed the 5 key underwater photographer features for the Spoilsport Liveaboard, where for this liveaboard it includes 3 of the 5 key features.

Customer review from Liveaboard.com

The crew is phenomenal, the whales showed up, the reefs were great. This was my first experience on a liveaboard and Mike Ball completely blew me away. The crew is outstanding. The dive operation is a well-oiled machine and is extremely well run. You don't need to worry about safety as they provide SMBs and Nautilus's as well as very good dive/minke briefings. The food was top notch everyday and I never felt disappointed in any meals. If you need anything, the crew will not disappoint. My octo was leaking air on the first day and by the next morning, they had it fixed. I truly fear Mike Ball may have ruined future liveaboards for me as the whole package from the dives to the food to the service was completely impeccable.”

Recommended for: The crew was phenomenal. The minke whales were so curious and playful. The reefs were pristine.
