Emperor Explorer Liveaboard Review - Expert Guide to Choosing Your Liveaboard

Russell Bowyer here. I've written this Emperor Explorer Liveaboard review to help you choose the right liveaboard with confidence. As a qualified diving instructor and Advanced BSAC Diver with 500+ dives worldwide, I've helped countless divers pick their perfect liveaboard - whether it's your first time liveaboard or you're an experienced diver seeking your next adventure.

Read more about Russell's diving experience

My diving experience spans cold-water UK drysuit dives, warm coral reefs in the Caribbean, the Red Sea, the Great Barrier Reef, and South Africa. As a former BSAC Diving Officer and diving instructor, I've taught many people to dive and taken a lot of the divers I taught on their first dive. I also used to organise and run dive trips in the UK, with one of my favourites being expeditions to the Farne Islands to dive with the seals. I've logged every type of dive: decompression stop deep dives, wreck dives, shark dives, night dives, drift dives, and everything in between. This hands-on experience means I know exactly what makes a great liveaboard experience, having dived from liveaboards myself and loved it. This is why I came up with the SDE Liveaboard Rating* to help you choose the best liveaboard for you.

Customer review from Liveaboard.com

Lots of Mantas, yummy Maldivian cuisine, and so much more! We had a wonderful time. Our DM, Ella, was very engaged and enthusiastic about every dive. Making sure we had a positive experience. Our cabin was one of the largest rooms I’ve seen from many, many liveaboards…especially the storage space. Absolutely enjoyed the crew and the chef and his team deserve and an award for culinary excellence. It’s not often. I get to say that about a diving boat. We loved the Manta Knight dive, and the diving overall was good. Highly recommend Emperor Divers as an operation overall and the emperor explorer boat was excellent.. About the only thing I can nitpick about would be their lack of a true camera table. If some of my photography diver friends were on this boat I think they would’ve found it a bit lacking. They need a dedicated camera table or area if possible…with air to clean off cameras. But that’s about the only thing I can offer for critical feedback. 5 stars!!!”

Recommended for: Awesome crew. Fantastic diving experience. Accommodations and food.

All liveaboard reviews on this site are written based on my real diving experience, from hundreds of dives across reefs, wreck dives, shark dives, deep dives, night dives and drysuit diving.

I’ve cold water dived in the UK, warm water dived from many of the Caribbean islands, dived both the east and west coasts of Australia, the Red Sea, South Africa and dived the east and west coasts of the USA, and I’ve also spent time and enjoyed diving from liveaboards myself too.

My aim; to always give you clear, honest, practical advice, so you can book the right dive boat and enjoy the best possible liveaboard diving holiday, be that on the Emperor Explorer or any other liveaboard I've reviewed on Scuba Diving Earth.
