Tiger Beach Liveaboard Dive Site

Liveaboard Dive Tiger Beach – A Shark Lover’s Dream

Tiger Beach is located off the west end of Grand Bahama Island, and has earned a legendary reputation among divers worldwide for diving with tiger sharks. Where some of the female tiger sharks can reach 4.5 metres (14-15 feet) in length.

This shallow sandbank, set in turquoise waters with outstanding visibility, offers some of the most thrilling and consistent shark encounters anywhere on the planet.

Here, tiger sharks glide gracefully through the water alongside lemon sharks, Caribbean reef sharks, and the occasional hammerhead, all in just 8–10 metres of water.

The white sandy bottom creates a natural stage, giving photographers and videographers perfect conditions to capture these apex predators in their element. Divers are asked to kneel on the sandy bottom, often in the same of a V, and to then enjoy and observe the shark action.

Because Tiger Beach is located far from shore, liveaboard diving is the best and most practical way to experience it. You’ll anchor directly at the site, allowing multiple dives per day without long boat rides or rushed schedules.

Dive sites located at Tiger Beach:

  • Fish Tales: Close to Tiger Beach with similar shark sightings but a little deeper depths of 6-15 metres. At Fishtails you are likely to see tiger sharks, lemon sharks, and Caribbean reef sharks.
  • Lighthouse: Is another great dive site to see great hammerheads, tiger sharks, nurse sharks, lemon sharks, and even bull sharks have been spotted.
  • Sugar Wreck: Located near to Tiger Beach, Sugar Wreck is in around 6 metres (20 feet) of water, and was an old sailing ship that sank whilst carrying sugar to the Caribbean, likely for rum production. Whilst this dive isn't necessarily about shark diving, you may still see tiger sharks, Caribbean reef sharks, lemon sharks and nurse sharks. This wreck like most Caribbean wrecks is abundant in fish life, including snappers, angelfish, parrot fish, grunts and wrasse.
  • Shark Paradise Bahamas: Near Grand Bahama is another top destination for shark diving. The dive site is known for encounters with lemon sharks, tiger sharks, and hammerhead sharks.
  • Mount Olympus: This is an underwater pinnale dropping off to a depth of over 450 metres(1,475 feet). This underwater mountain is encrusted in a variety of corals and lies at the outer reaches of the Tiger Beach area. This site is best explored as a deep or even technical dive, however recreational divers can still enjoy the top of the pinnacle in round 18 metres of water. You are likely to see various shark species, sea turtles, manta rays and dolphins are often spotted too
  • Mini Wall: This dive site which most call Mini Wall, is also known as Shark Ledge. The second name is possibly more appropriate, as it's patrolled by Caribbean reef sharks and you might even be lucky to see a great hammerhead shark too. Other sightings include turtles and eagle rays and the wall is covered in soft and hard corals.

Why Dive Tiger Beach by Liveaboard

Day trips from the mainland are limited and weather dependent. Liveaboards, on the other hand, allow you to stay on-site for several days, diving when the conditions are calmest and enjoying unhurried, world-class shark encounters. Most itineraries include multiple dives daily, including dusk dives when shark activity peaks.

Liveaboard vessels provide comfortable cabins, onboard meals, and experienced shark guides who ensure encounters are conducted safely and responsibly. Many operators use established baiting techniques that bring the sharks close without harming them, giving divers unforgettable up-close experiences in a controlled environment.

Tiger Beach isn’t just about tiger sharks, as the site is also home to lemon sharks, nurse sharks, and large groups of Caribbean reef sharks. Occasionally, hammerheads or great hammerheads make surprise appearances, adding even more excitement.

The water is warm and exceptionally clear, with visibility often exceeding 30 metres, making every dive a spectacular show.

Unforgettable Encounters, Above and Below

Between dives, you’ll enjoy relaxed time on deck, watching sharks cruise beneath the boat and soaking in the Bahamian sunshine. Evenings are spent sharing stories, reviewing underwater photos, and preparing for the next day’s action.
