Los Gemelos Liveaboard Itinerary Stop

Los Gemelos, or the Twin Craters, are two large volcanic collapse formations in the highlands of Santa Cruz Island. They are not dive sites and they are not impact craters. A short walking route through humid Scalesia forest reveals a landscape very different from the island’s arid coast.

The forest is particularly useful for birdwatching, with Darwin’s finches and other highland species possible along the trail. Weather can be cool, damp and misty even when the coast is sunny, so walking shoes and a light waterproof layer are more relevant than diving equipment.

Some liveaboard itineraries add Los Gemelos before embarkation or after disembarkation because the site lies on the route between Baltra and Puerto Ayora. It may be combined with the Santa Cruz Highlands and Charles Darwin Research Station.
