The dive staff and crew treated us like royalty. Amazing! What can we say? What an amazing experience. The dive team Steve, Will and Ciara did an amazing job above and beneath the water. We feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to meet interesting and fun fellow divers. We started as strangers but left as friends, with both passengers and dive crew. If you're thinking of doing a live aboard in the Andaman Sea, I would strongly suggest choosing the Blue Dolphin.”

Blue Dolphin Liveaboard Review - Expert Guide to Choosing Your Liveaboard

Russell Bowyer here. I've written this Blue Dolphin Liveaboard review to help you confidently choose and book the right liveaboard. As a qualified diving instructor and Advanced BSAC Diver with 500+ dives worldwide, I've helped countless divers pick their perfect liveaboard - whether it's your first time liveaboard or you're an experienced diver seeking your next adventure.

Read more about Russell's diving experience

My diving experience spans cold-water UK drysuit dives, warm coral reefs in the Caribbean, the Red Sea, the Great Barrier Reef, and South Africa. As a former BSAC Diving Officer and diving instructor, I've taught many people to dive and taken a lot of the divers I taught on their first dive. I also used to organise and run dive trips in the UK, with one of my favourites being expeditions to the Farne Islands to dive with the seals. I've logged every type of dive: decompression stop deep dives, wreck dives, shark dives, night dives, drift dives, and everything in between. This hands-on experience means I know exactly what makes a great liveaboard experience, having dived from liveaboards myself and loved it. This is why I came up with the SDE Liveaboard Rating* to help you choose the best liveaboard for you.

My score of the Blue Dolphin Liveaboard is 3/3 on the SDE Tech Diving Rating, as it has 3 of the 3 key technical diving features (see below).

If you plan to do technical diving, the Blue Dolphin Liveaboard supports tech divers, but before you finalise your trip, check the typical dive depths, available gases, and whether stage and decompression cylinders are supported on your chosen itinerary. In addition, If you dive with a rebreather the Blue Dolphin Liveaboard provides rebreather support, but it’s worth confirming in advance which rebreathers are supported and whether oxygen fills, sorb availability, and bailout requirements are onboard, because this can vary by region and itinerary.

If you like to dive sidemount style the Blue Dolphin Liveaboard supports sidemount diving, but when you plan your dives check the boat’s cylinder options and the deck set-up, so your configuration is comfortable and properly supported for the dives planned.

Below I've listed the 3 key tech diving features for the Blue Dolphin Liveaboard, where for this liveaboard it includes 3 of the 3 key features.

Customer review from Liveaboard.com

A brilliant experience I will never forget by an agency I’ll always recommend. Fantastic liveaboard experience! I was so sad when it was over. The dive guides/instructors were all brilliant, knowledgeable, patient and funny! Steve was my dive guide and really helped me with my equipment and buoyancy, and I felt so confident in the water by the end of the trip. The cooking staff were so accommodating to my vegan food requirements and made delicious alternatives for me. The other boat crew managing our tanks were professional and took our safety seriously. Highly recommend a liveaboard with Big Blue!”

Recommended for: The dive guides. The staff. The diving experience.
