    Apo Reef is a diverse coral reef which is roughly 34 sq. km. The reef has a shallow lagoon with a depth of 2-10 meters and is surrounded by mangrove forest.

    It is this mangrove forest that serves as source of food, nursery and spawning ground for many coastal and marine species. It is also a bird sanctuary too. of birds.

    The Okikawa was a Japanese oil tanker that was sunk by the Americans on 24 September 1944 during World War II.

    The wreck sits at 10-25 metres (33-82 feet) in Coron Bay, Palawan, Philippines. and is 160 metres (525 feet) in length. Experienced divers can penetrate the wreck to explore inside this wreck.

    On the deck which is at 10 metres, there are corals growing on the outside of the wreck, and you'll see plenty of marine life include turtles.

    Article written by Russell Bowyer who has been a scuba diver since diving on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia in 1989. After his first dive he trained as a BSAC diver in the UK. He attained his Diver Leader certification with BSAC. He then went on to become a scuba diving instructor, teaching others how to dive and was voted as Diving Officer and Treasurer for the Saffron Walden BSAC club too. Russell has dived all over the world, including the UK, on liveaboards in the Red Sea, the Caribbean, South Africa and the USA.
